Linea 8012 and SeptimA Claret in unique and surprising applications

Uniformity as a concept

As the owner of this building is the co-manager of a construction company, this project needed to reference this in every way. The resulting building stands out in more ways than one. Within its environment the building catches - very subtly - the eye architecturally, technically and conceptually.

The parcel is on a street with mostly brown and red facing bricks with at the back a panoramic view of the agricultural land and nature behind it. The goal was to build a strikingly modern villa with lots of natural light, without disturbing the harmony of the environment.

The choice of materials was an important first step to realize this goal. The purple linea 8012met all the requirements. By using facing bricks in this colour, there is a clear link to the other surrounding buildings. The long, lean bricks were connected by a thin joint, resulting in a modern look and forming a beautiful combination with the architectural concrete elements.

Especially technically, this realization was a challenge. To highlight the technical know-how of the company, the facing bricks were processed in four different ways. A clear decision was made to use the most recent techniques and trends.

The side walls and back of the house were constructed in a conventional way, using whole facing bricks, joined together in a random pattern. All other surfaces underline the ingenuity and expertise of the contractor. The sloped façade was realized by using brick slips, joined together on polystyrene isolation fixed and anchored in the sloping concrete façade.

On the roof the facing bricks are joined together on the EPDM sealing covering the concrete slabs and the roof insulation. Because of the sandy finish of the bricks, the roof forms a single whole with the other brick structures.

The same facing bricks were used for the top layer of the path leading to the front door. For this purpose, they were stabilised sideways in a sand bed, just like clay pavers. To strengthen it further, the bricks were also glued together.

As the back of the house has a beautiful view, large windows were placed to ensure lots of natural light and a great view towards the meadows. In the garden a path made out of SeptimA Claret clay pavers, identically coloured as the facing bricks, draws you towards the vast plain.
